VOICES of Kentuckiana is an LGBTQA chorus for the community that celebrates diversity and is dedicated to fostering positive social change through artistic excellence.


VOICES is looking for an Artistic & Managing Director who will provide leadership to our LGBTQA choral ensemble, producing exceptional concerts and creating a positive and supportive environment.  The start date is August 1, as we begin our 26th season.

Salary:  $40,000 - $46,000 yearly

The position is three-quarter time.  This will allow time to pursue other endeavors.



  • Education and background in music, vocal technique, choral conducting (including adult ensembles), music education/teaching, and piano proficiency

  • Ability to create an artistic vision for VOICES, given its mission and history

  • Ability and experience in collaborating productively with others, including singers, staff/volunteers, others in the community.

  • Experience in LGBTQA choral programming or sincere interest in working with an LGBTQA chorus

  • Interest in community and youth outreach

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the LGBTQA community, choral movement and musical/artistic community.

  • Ability to lead, inspire, and have fun.



  • Program and conduct two annual concerts each season in December and April.

  • Conduct community outreach performances.

  • Keep VOICES focused on its mission by programming relevant music.

  • Coordinate rehearsal CDs for each rehearsal period.

  • Engage guest instrumentalists and soloists as needed.

  • Conduct weekly rehearsals of the chorus and its small ensemble Inner VOICES.

  • Conduct extra rehearsals as needed.

  • Assist and advise in matters regarding venue selection, concert dates and times.

  • Participate as needed in planning and execution of budget, marketing and fundraising activities.

  • Communicate regularly with the Chorus President, Board Chair, and Chorus Leadership Team.

  • Actively seek community outreach performance opportunities for the chorus.

  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with arts groups and community organizations.

  • Attend one Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA) symposium each year.

  • Participate in GALA Chorus Festivals.

  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization.



  • Oversee day to day operations

  • Oversee the planning and execution of concerts, events and activities.

  • Oversee all venue and facility rentals, and rehearsal space arrangements.

  • Support the chorus leadership team in the mobilization and utilization of volunteers.

  • Work with the chorus leadership team to ensure a positive environment for our members.

  • Work with our Marketing-PR contractor on the implementation of marketing/PR programs.

  • Work with the Board to maximize contributed income and fundraising.

  • Investigate and coordinate grant applications.

  • Develop partnerships with community arts, education and cultural organizations.

  • Oversee the youth and community outreach programs.

  • Work with the Board to develop an annual budget.
