VOICES of Kentuckiana is searching for a new
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

 

VOICES of Kentuckiana is an LGBTQ+ chorus for the community that celebrates diversity and is dedicated to fostering positive social change through artistic excellence.
 
VOICES is looking for an Artistic Director who will provide leadership to our LGBTQ+ choral ensemble(s), producing exceptional concerts and creating a positive and supportive environment. 

 

The start date is August 1, as we begin our 29th season. We welcome candidates from any location, and given the quick timeline to hire and start, we will be happy to be flexible with those needing to move to Louisville as they start their contract with VOICES.
 
The position is part-time, with a 12 month contract of $27,000 - $30,000, and allows time to pursue other endeavors. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed a Bachelors in Music Performance or Music Education, vocal technique, choral conducting (including adult ensembles), music education/teaching, and piano proficiency

  • Ability to create an artistic vision for VOICES, given its mission and history

  • Ability and experience in collaborating productively with others, including singers, staff/volunteers, others in the community.

  • Experience in LGBTQ+ choral programming or sincere interest in working with an LGBTQ+ chorus

  • Experience with building community partnerships and youth outreach

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the LGBTQ+ community, choral movement and musical/artistic community.

  • Ability to lead, inspire, and have fun.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Program and conduct two annual concerts in the Winter and Spring seasons

  • Conduct community outreach performances

  • Keep VOICES focused on its mission by programming relevant music and exemplify the values of inclusivity, courage, musicianship, cooperation, empowerment, integrity, and joy

  • Coordinate outside of rehearsal supports for learning music, such as sectionals, voice part recordings, etc

  • Engage guest instrumentalists and soloists as needed with consultation of budget

  • Conduct weekly rehearsals of the chorus and its small ensemble Inner VOICES

  • Conduct extra rehearsals as needed

  • Oversee all venue and facility rentals, and rehearsal space arrangements

  • In coordination with the board, lead in the planning and execution the artistic portion of the budget

  • In coordination with marketing agency, lead in the planning and execution of concert promotions

  • As the face of the artistic vision of VOICES, participate in planning and execution of  fundraising activities, including grants, events, and sponsorships

  • Support and communicate regularly with the Board and Chorus Leadership Team.

  • Actively seek and manage community outreach performance opportunities for the chorus

  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with arts, education, and cultural organizations

  • Attend one Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA) symposium each year

  • Participate in GALA Chorus Festivals

  • Act as a fierce advocate for the organization

  • With board and chorus leadership, develop and execute a youth and community outreach plan

For future scheduling, we are tentatively looking to do the first round of interviews via Zoom in mid to late June. We’ll then hold a final round of in-person interviews and audition with the chorus on a weekend in mid to late July.
